The Andean Amazon Biopiracy Prevention Initiative is a national, regional and international, multisectorial and multidisciplinary effort undertaken address biopiracy from different approaches: scientific research, organzation of networks, campaigns and awareness raising activities. The initiative is based on the effective coordination and the search of strategic partners, as well as the participation of a wide number of stakeholders, transparency and the need to avoid the duplicate efforts whit ongoing activities and, rather, establish positive synergies with them and seek to find mutual supportiveness. Objectives
- Prevent the illegal use of genetic resources and traditional knowledge. Ensuring the granting of patents, wich directly or indirectly incorporate these resources and knowledge, take into account existing data and information, as part of their novelty and inventiveness search processes.
- Influence the trend s and procedures os Intellectual Property Offices wich grant rigths that affect countries of origin.
- Replicate the experience of teh Peruvian Working Group on Maca to promote activities for the prevention of biopiracy and build common leadership platforms at a regional and international level.

- Formation of national groups against biopiracy in Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela.
- The publication of research documents undertaken by reputed institutions and experts.
- Promotion of relevant meetings, tables of technical discussions and workshops at a national level against biopiracy.
- Promote strategic alliances between national, regional and international institutions.
- Disseminate the progress and experiences in national regional and international forums.
- Campaigns of awareness raising activities across the media.
